Prince William finishes Air Ambulance service

Prince William will complete his service as an Air Ambulance pilot with a final night shift on Thursday (27Jul17).
The British royal will join his colleagues from the East Anglian Air Ambulance at Cambridge Airport in England, for briefings and a group photograph before beginning his last shift, officials at royal residence Kensington Palace have announced.
The 35-year-old has worked as an Air Ambulance pilot for two years, piloting his first operational missions in July 2015.
On the day of his final shift William had a letter published in local newspaper the Eastern Daily Press, thanking his colleagues and recounting his experiences as a pilot.
“As I arrive for work at East Anglian Air Ambulance this evening, my last shift with this incredible team, I wanted to say thank you to my colleagues, team mates and the people of East Anglia who I have been so proud to serve,” he wrote in the letter.
“Over the past two years I have met people from across the region who were in the most desperate of circumstances. As part of the team, I have been invited into people’s homes to share moments of extreme emotion, from relief that we have given someone a fighting chance, to profound grief.”
As well as praising the professionalism and skill of the medics and emergency services personal, he also recalled how one of his early call outs was to try and help a young man who took his own life.
The prince wrote that the experience had a “profound effect” on him and had made him determined to draw attention to the issue of suicide and mental health.
He signed off his letter by writing, “As I hang up my flight suit, I am proud to have served with such an incredible team of people, who save lives across the region every day.”
