Princes William and Harry regret ‘rushed’ final call with Princess Diana

Prince Harry and Prince William are still haunted by the brevity of the final conversation they had with mother Princess Diana before her death.
William was just 15-years-old when Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris, France, on 31 August 1997, while Harry was 12.
While the royal brothers have always maintained their privacy with regards to their mother, they will open up about her tragic passing in upcoming documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy.
The programme, which has been filmed to mark the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death, contains rare interview footage of the siblings speaking about the painful memory of their last-ever chat with their mother, which occurred when the princess called her sons from her holiday in France.
“Harry and I were in a desperate rush to say goodbye, you know ‘see you later’. If I’d known now obviously what was going to happen I wouldn’t have been so blase about it and everything else,” William confessed. “But that phone call sticks in my mind, quite heavily.”
Harry concurred with his brother, and admitted he had also been deeply affected by the call.
“Looking back on it now, it’s incredibly hard. I’ll have to sort of deal with that for the rest of my life,” Harry said. “Not knowing that was the last time I was going to speak to my mum. How differently that conversation would have panned out if I’d had even the slightest inkling her life was going to be taken that night.”
The documentary also sees William confess he regularly talks to his children Prince George, four, and two-year-old Princess Charlotte about Diana, so she remains present in their lives.
