Priscilla Presley is convinced her late ex-husband Elvis wouldn’t have overcome his problems even if he had survived his fatal heart attack.

Wednesday (16Aug17) marks 40 years since the King of Rock and Roll passed away aged 42, following a string of health problems.

While fans around the world remember his musical talent, his former spouse Priscilla, who he married in 1967 after meeting when she was just 14 years old then divorced in 1973, has opened up in a new interview about the issues the music icon battled before his death in 1977.

Quizzed on whether she thinks he would have moved past his problems if he hadn’t died four decades ago during an appearance on British TV show Good Morning Britain (GMB), the 72-year-old star sighed, “No, I don’t. I think that he would always have his demons. Elvis was a thinker. He was a searcher. His mother had demons, his father had demons. We all have demons obviously; I don’t want to make it bigger than it is. They were a close family but there was always a little bit of sadness in them.”

Elvis‘ mother Gladys, who he was extremely close to, died aged 46 of heart failure in 1958 after suffering from hepatitis, leaving the singer devastated.

Priscilla had daughter Lisa Marie with the Suspicious Minds musician and even after they went their separate ways, she remained closed to the rest of the Presley clan and still has a bond with Elvis‘ relatives.

“Oh my gosh, no (I never lost the connection),” Priscilla added during her GMB chat. “I feel a very big responsibility to the family. Even now there’s such a connection. We have so many memories, so many things that you can’t share with anyone else.”

Priscilla and Lisa Marie, 49, joined fans at Elvis‘ former Graceland ranch in Memphis, Tennessee, on Tuesday night to pay tribute to the late star with a candlelight vigil.
