Producer Quincy Jones Launching Qwest TV Music Service

Music legend Quincy Jones is launching a video-on-demand platform service dedicated to jazz music.

Qwest TV will premiere on 15 December (17) and feature over 100 “concerts, documentaries, interviews and archives of premium jazz and related eclectic music original content” from artists including Aretha Franklin, Anderson .Paak, and B.B. King.

Subscribers will also have access to playlists curated by top producers and artists.

“I have witnessed first-hand the power of jazz – and all of its offspring from the blues and R&B to pop, rock and hip-hop, to tear down walls and bring the world together,” Jones says. “I believe that a hundred years from now, when people look back at the 20th century, they will view Bird (Charlie Parker), Miles (Davis) and Dizzy (Gillespie) as our Mozarts, Bachs, Chopins and Tchaikovskys.

“It’s my hope that Qwest TV will serve to carry forth and build on the great legacy that is jazz for many generations to come.”

Musicians including Questlove and Erykah Badu will also be involved with Qwest TV as Jones attempts to “increase the popularity of jazz”, highlighting its influence on other types of music from hip-hop to electronic music, and introduces new talent “to engage the next generation”.

In celebration of the launch, a concert featuring Jacob Collier, Cheick Tidiane Seck, Moh Kouyate, Magic Malik, Sylvain Luc, Omar Sosa and Mederic Collignon will be live-streamed from Paris.
