Professor Green ‘felt like a novelty’ during Millie Mackintosh marriage

Professor Green used to feel “like a novelty” when meeting the friends of his ex-wife Millie Mackintosh.
The 34-year-old British rapper, real name Stephen Manderson, met the heiress in 2011, and he proposed in March 2013 during a vacation in Paris, France. They tied the knot in September 2013 in an extravagant ceremony at Babington House in Somerset, England.
Green has now opened up to U.K. newspaper The Times about the difficulties he experienced while married to Millie, and living with her in the upscale London district of Chelsea.
“I’ve been in places and felt a bit like a novelty. Meeting certain people’s family members and almost having to prove myself,” he explained.
The couple split in February 2016, with their divorce finalised in late May. Millie, who starred in reality series Made in Chelsea, has since become engaged to former boyfriend Hugo Taylor.
Despite their differences, the rapper said his marriage gave him an insight into the widening gap between working and upper classes in the U.K., “in the same way it would if you married someone from a different country because you learn about their culture, their ways, their history”.
He also felt he had more in common with the more eccentric residents of Chelsea than Millie’s social group.
“(I had) nothing in common with anyone apart from the old eccentrics, who I loved – you know, passing me their spliff (marijuana cigarette) outside the pub. And parents who’d actually worked for their lot,” the star said, scathingly.
Green also revealed how he is sometimes made to feel uncomfortable while shopping for clothes in expensive designer stores, and stated: “People do look at you as if you’re going to steal something when you walk in wearing a tracksuit.”
