Queen of Twang

Country singer Faith Hill is sittin’ pretty today … well, prettier than normal. The gorgeous performer leads the nominations for the Country Music Association awards with a total of eight nods, including best entertainer along with her husband, Tim McGraw.

Hill was also nominated for best female vocalist, vocal event of the year for “Let’s Make Love,” and best album, single and video for the single “Breathe.” As the producer of the single, Hill stands to win two additional awards if she wins for best album and single, bringing her potential booty to eight awards.

Martina McBride, Joe Dee Messina, Lee Ann Womack and Trisha Yearwood were also nominated with Hill in the best female vocalist category. Last year’s winner for best entertainer, Shania Twain, was not nominated.

Hot newcomer Brad Paisley received six nominations, including best male vocalist along with McGraw, Vince Gill, George Strait and Alan Jackson. Hit singles by Paisley and Womack, however, also have strong possibilities to be big winners. Paisley’s “He Didn’t Have To Be” and Womack’s “I Hope You Dance” were nominated for best song, single and video.

“I don’t feel worthy, but I’m honored,” Paisley told The Associated Press. “Folks must feel like I’m on the right track.”

The announcements were made today in Nashville. The awards will be broadcast live on CBS from the Grand Ole Opry on Oct. 4.
