R Kelly concerts in Germany cancelled as singer is released on bail

R Kelly concerts in Germany have been cancelled after the rapper was released from jail on $100,000 bail on Monday (25Feb19).

The 52-year-old rapper pleaded not guilty to 10 felony aggravated sex abuse charges for allegedly assaulting four victims, three of whom were underage at the time.

Kelly surrendered to police officials in Chicago, Illinois, last Friday and is set to return to court on 22 March.

He faces life in prison if he is found guilty.

Shortly after the Ignition star was granted bail, it was announced that his contract for a show at Ratiopharm Arena in Germany had been cancelled.

“Regarding the new and objective facts, we have decided to cancel the contract,” a message on a Facebook page for Ratiopharm Arena in Neu-Ulm read on Tuesday after previously removing ads for the 12 April concert the day before.

The arena issued an apology to fans that had already purchased tickets, advising them to “turn to the tour’s organiser” regarding possible reimbursement for associated costs.

Furthermore, Page Six has reported that the operator of the Sporthalle Hamburg arena – where the I Believe I Can Fly singer’s second German concert is currently planned for April – said they had already tried unsuccessfully to cancel the contract with Kelly’s rep before the singer was charged.
Following Kelly’s subsequent arrest, the arena revealed that they planned to reach out to reps again now that the star’s legal situation has changed.

Last week, a judge ordered Kelly to surrender his passport after defiantly scheduling concerts in Germany and the Netherlands despite his legal troubles.
