Rachel Bilson speaks out against Bling Ring film

Real life Bling Ring victim Rachel Bilson has spoken out against Sofia Coppola’s decision to “glorify” the celebrity burglaries in a new film, branding the move “weird” and “upsetting”. The actress was among a number of stars, including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Bloom, whose homes were targeted by a gang of young thieves between 2008 and 2009.
The case of the celebrity burglar bunch inspired Coppola’s new film The Bling Ring, starring Emma Watson and featuring victim Hilton in a cameo role.
However, Bilson, who reportedly lost her mother’s engagement ring in the break-in, insists she doesn’t agree with the decision to make the movie.
She tells Britain’s Cosmopolitan magazine, “I thought it was weird to glorify something that was so upsetting for a lot of people. It’s important to detach from material things, but the special, personal things I lost are hard to forget.”
Bilson testified during the trial of real life gang members and revealed the burglary left her so scared, she couldn’t sleep in her bedroom for weeks afterwards.
She said, “It took me a while to feel comfortable staying there. I wouldn’t sleep in my bedroom for about a month. And I was convinced that I needed to sell my house and get out of there, because I was very scared. But I’m still there.”
