Rashida Jones is set to receive the Actors Inspiration Award from officials at the Screen Actors Guild Foundation.
The former Parks and Recreation actress has been named as the fourth recipient of the award, which she will be presented with at the Los Angeles Golf Classic on Monday (12May17) in recognition of her philanthropy.
“We are excited to present Rashida Jones with our Actors Inspiration Award and honor her tireless dedication for tackling issues around global poverty, improving health outcomes for people battling AIDS and cancer, and for using her artistic platform to support several important charities, including our very own children’ literacy initiative Storyline Online,” SAG-AFTRA Foundation President JoBeth Williams said in a statement.
“Rashida’s generosity and commitment to giving back to the global community is an inspiration, and we are proud and grateful she will accept this honor.”
Rashida’s humanitarian work includes being an advocate for the International Rescue Committee, which helps those fleeing conflict and disaster, supporting Amnesty International, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, and The Trevor Project, and serving on the board of Peace First, which encourages youths to become next generation of peacemakers.
She will reportedly be filming a new video for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s online children’s literacy program Storyline Online after the ceremony.
Rashida, the daughter of producer Quincy Jones and actress Peggy Lipton, follows in the footsteps of past Actors Inspiration Award recipients Sofia Vergara, Kerry Washington, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
She has been no stranger to awards shows of late – she hosted the Peabody Awards in New York in May and on Tuesday night (06Jun17), she went to the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in London to honor her former Parks co-star Amy Poehler by presenting her with the Glamour Inspiration prize.
