Richard Gere still upset 2010 movie didn’t get cinema release

The Lasse Hallstrom drama about a professor who adopts a lost Akita puppy went straight to DVD and Gere, who played the academic, still can’t understand why the moving movie wasn’t picked up by a distributor.

He tells Entertainment Weekly magazine, “It’s painful when you know the movie works and you’ve worked hard on it, and you know that audiences respond to it and you can’t get a company to get it to them.

“I do a lot of travelling, and wherever I am, someone comes up to me about Hachi to tell me that they cried like babies when they watched it.

“I couldn’t get through the script the first time because I was weeping so much.”
