A team of archaeologists and historians found the bones during an excavation in Leicester, England last autumn (12) and now DNA results have confirmed “beyond reasonable doubt” that they belong to the 15th century king, who died at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, aged 33.
The royal is believed to have died a violent death, suffering two severe blows to the head. He was buried with his hands tied.
A special memorial service is expected to take place for the reburial of Richard III, who was immortalised as a scheming monarch in William Shakespeare’s classic play, at Leicester Cathedral early next year (14).
