Richie Havens’ ashes to be scattered at Woodstock

The ashes of late folk icon Richie Havens are to be scattered at the site of the legendary Woodstock festival in New York. The singer, who died in April (13) after suffering a fatal heart attack, will be celebrated at a special ceremony on 18 August (13) on the former farm in Bethel where he opened the historic festival in 1969.
A message posted on Havens’ official website states, “This day of song and remembrance honouring Richie Havens is open to the public, and all are welcome. A ticket will be required for admission and will be made available for free.”
Havens was not scheduled to be the first performer at Woodstock, but he was called on to take the stage when the other acts ended up stuck in traffic and he played a now legendary two-hour set.
Woodstock’s location is now home to the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.
