Rihanna: ‘Don’t ditch sexy lingerie once you get the ring’

Rihanna has urged women not to ditch their sexy lingerie once they “get the ring”.

The singer-turned-fashion designer presented her new Savage X Fenty lingerie collection during New York Fashion Week at Brooklyn Navy Yard on Wednesday (12Sep18), showing her sexy garments on models including Bella and Gigi Hadid, Joan Smalls and a very pregnant Slick Woods.

In a chat with Entertainment Tonight, the 30-year-old multi-hyphenate discussed why lingerie should always be a part of your wardrobe.

“When lingerie is for you, you never lose your sexiness,” she stated. “I feel like a lot of times women do the lingerie thing to get the ring, and then they get the ring, and then it’s like, ‘OK, we’re here. (Now what?)'”

The Love on the Brain singer admitted she understood that you might not always want to wear something super-sexy, and that there are times she too has to rethink the type of lingerie she wears to feel good.

“For me, it might not be the same as for another lady,” Rihanna confessed. “I think it has to be something that makes you feel the sexiest… I have those months when I’m like, ‘Girl, you’re not gonna fit into that thing. You’re gonna have to do a little slip.’ But fine! A slip works. A slip makes me feel sexy and I’ll just do that.

“I think women’s bodies are designed so differently, uniquely that they should just do what makes them feel best and sexiest.”

For her vibrant garden of Eden themed presentation, Rihanna showcased glow-in-the-dark garters, coloured satin and leopard print, in pieces ranging from sports bras to full-on basques.

She stuck to her Fenty brand’s agenda of inclusivity by featuring the range on people of all shapes, and colours, including two pregnant models.

Rihanna also took to the catwalk for a bow, dressed in a nude-toned ruched dress and a matching scarf over her head, which she flamboyantly removed.

“It was exciting for me, just for me to be able to display lingerie,” she said. “And the challenge was to figure out how to do it in a different way because we’ve seen a lot… and I think we managed to do that.”
