Rise of the Guardians topples Skyfall at U.K. box office

Rise Of The Guardians has knocked Daniel Craig’s Skyfall off the U.K. box office top spot in its second weekend of release.

DreamWorks Animation’s festive movie, featuring the voices of Chris Pine and Alec Baldwin, raked in $2.5 million (£1.6 million) over the weekend (7-9Dec12), forcing the superspy blockbuster into second place, with earnings of $2.2 million (£1.4 million).

Christopher Walken and Colin Farrell’s latest film, Seven Psychopaths, was the only new entry into the top five and settled into third place with $1.7 million (£1.1 million) in takings.

Former number one The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 fell a further place from last weekend’s spot into fourth position, earning $1.58 million (£980,000).

Christmas comedy Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger!, starring David Tennant and Joanna Page, rounds out the top five with $1.56 million (£966,000) in earnings.
