Robert Englund ‘too old’ to play Freddy Krueger again

Robert Englund has insisted that he is “too old” to play Freddy Krueger again.
The 70-year-old actor is perhaps best known for playing the infamous serial killer in the Nightmare on Elm Street film series, and last took on the role in 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason, with Jackie Earle Haley taking on the character for a 2010 remake of the original film.
While Englund will always be associated with the iconic horror figure, he has now admitted that he has no desire to step into the role once more.
“I’m too old to do another Freddy now,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “If I do a fight scene now it’s got to be real minimal because I can’t snap my head for eight different takes and different angles. My spine gets sore. I can still be mean and scary, but I’m mostly relegated now to sort of Van Helsing roles, old doctors and s**t. So it’s fun that the last moment of me ever playing Freddy is a wink to the audience.”
Even with his long association with Krueger, Englund has maintained a varied Hollywood career and will next be seen onscreen in Chris Majors’ Harvest Moon and in Evan Marlowe’s upcoming horror movie Abruptio, starring opposite Jordan Peele.
