Robert Lindsay embroiled in beer battle

Veteran British actor Robert Lindsay has reportedly become embroiled in a dispute with a brewery over bottles of beer which carry an image from his classic sitcom Citizen Smith. A picture of Lindsay’s character, hapless political activist Wolfie Smith, is featured on bottles of beer produced by the By The Horns Brewing Company, which is based in Tooting, south London, where the popular 1970s show was set.
The beer, which was launched last year (13), features the name Wolfie Smith Amber Ale and is part of a special edition range celebrating life in London.
However, bosses at the beverage firm claim Lindsay’s agent has contacted them and ordered them to remove the picture.
Brewer Alex Bull tells the London Evening Standard, “The agent said Robert Lindsay did not want his face to be on the bottle… and to be linked with an alcoholic product. It’s a big shame but we are going to have to get rid of Wolfie Smith’s well-known face and redesign the bottle that everyone loves… We didn’t want to change, but we are a small company; we did not feel we could go down the route of a court case… We don’t want to step on Robert Lindsay’s toes.”
