Robin Thicke wanted MTV VMA performance to shock everyone

Singers Robin Thicke and Miley Cyrus knew their controversial performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last month (Aug13) would cause a ruckus and the Blurred Lines singer insists that was their intention. The odd couple hit headlines when they took to the stage together in Brooklyn, New York to perform Thicke’s smash summer hit and the former Hannah Montana star gyrated and ‘twerked’ with the 36 year old father and husband.
But he insists he is unfazed by the shocked reaction that followed, claiming it’s just what the pair was planning and hoping for.
In an interview with America’s Star magazine, he says, “We were like, ‘OK, if you touch me with your foam finger all over my crotch, obviously a few people are going to have something to say about this!’
“But that was the whole point, to excite and provoke and entertain. Shock and awe!”
Thicke is also happy with Cyrus’ onstage antics: “I thought it was silly and funny and she was being humorous and naughty. That’s who she is and how she likes to dance. We were just being ourselves.”
Cyrus defended her performance earlier this month (Sep13), explaining she set out “to make history” with her show-stopping racy routine, and insisting critics were “overthinking it”.
