Rodney Atkins’ son uninjured after collision with drunk driver

Country star Rodney Atkins is breathing a sigh of relief after his son escaped unscathed from a collision with a suspected drunk driver.
The singer reveals 16-year-old Elijah was involved in a scary traffic incident last week (ends03Aug18), which could have easily ended in tragedy.
“He was in an accident. A methed-out drunk driver hit him,” Rodney told Taste of Country.
“He’s fine,” the musician continued. “Not a scratch on him, but it totaled his truck.”
Rodney had a heart-to-heart with his boy after the close call, and encouraged him to stay positive after escaping injury – but he needn’t have worried.
Recalling how the chat brought the message of his 2006 song Watching You full circle, he added, “I talked to him, and I said, ‘It’s OK, you walked away from this. It’s an opportunity to look around, and something good is gonna come out of it.’ And he said, ‘Oh, I know, Dad. I know from watching you; I’ve learned that when the worst things happen in your life to keep your head up, because that’s when some of the best things are gonna happen.'”
Rodney wrote Watching You when Elijah was just a kid, with the track reflecting on his son’s desire to grow up and be just like his dad.
