ROLE CALL: ‘Sweet’ on Roberts, Zeta-Jones

How about this for an ensemble cast? Daily Variety reports today that Julia Roberts, John Cusack, Billy Crystal and Catherine Zeta-Jones might all rub shoulders in the new Revolution Studios comedy “American’s Sweethearts.”

Written by Crystal and “Analyze This” writer Peter Tolan, the film depicts a Hollywood supercouple who must stay together to promote a film despite their marriage being on the rocks.

Cusack and Zeta-Jones are set to play the A list lovebirds, Crystal is eyeing the role of the couple’s publicist and Roberts might play the Zeta-Jones character’s sister.

Revolution top dog Joe Roth is thinking of directing the flick, which goes into production in January.

REUNITED AND IT FEELS SO GOOD: Ben Affleck and Jason Lee (“Almost Famous“) are in talks to star in a new Kevin Smith project, Daily Variety says. The two actors had previously worked with the indie filmmakers in films such as “Chasing Amy,” “Mallrats” and “Dogma.”

’WORD’ UP: The Hollywood Reporter says that Michael Douglas and “Kiss the Girls” director Gary Fleder have committed to the thriller “Don’t Say a Word,” about a Gotham psychiatrist whose daughter is kidnapped.
