Fresh from his star-making role as Wolverine in “X-Men,” Hugh Jackman has sunk his blades into “Swordfish,” a drama starring John Travolta, Daily Variety reports. The Aussie is negotiating to play a paroled computer hacker forced by a spy (Travolta) into a final heist. The Warner Bros. film, to be helmed by Dominic Sena (“Gone in 60 Seconds”), begins shooting in L.A. in the fall.
Jackman is currently shooting Fox’s “Animal Husbandry,” a romantic comedy starring Ashley Judd.
Charlize Theron THERON MOVES TO ‘ALABAMA’: Charlize Theron is set to star in and produce the romantic comedy “Sweet Home Alabama” for the Walt Disney Co. and Original Films, Variety says. “Alabama” is slated for a spring shoot, although no director has been named.
The busy Theron will also star in Woody Allen’s untitled fall project for DreamWorks. Allen’s project is scheduled to begin shooting in October. The pair last worked together on 1998’s “Celebrity.”
HENSTRIDGE LANDS ON ‘MARS’: “Species” and “The Whole Nine Yards” actress Natasha Henstridge is set to join Screen Gem’s sci-fi thriller “John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars,” The Hollywood Reporter says. Henstridge replaces Courtney Love, who dropped out due to an injury while training for the futuristic project.
Dougray Scott GREAT SCOTT! Dougray Scott, seen this summer as Tom Cruise’s arch-nemesis in “M:I-2,” will star in a play directed by Oscar-winning helmer Sam Mendes (“American Beauty”), the Reporter says. The Scottish-born Scott is set to appear in “To the Green Fields and Beyond” this fall at Donmar Warehouse in London.
Scott, Drew Barrymore’s Prince Charming in “Ever After,” recently finished up the spy film “Enigma” with Kate Winslet.
THE ‘TORTILLA SOUP,’ PLEASE: Hector Elizondo and Raquel Welch will star in an English-language remake of Ang Lee’s 1994 romantic comedy “Eat Drink Man Woman,” Variety says. Elizondo will portray a Mexican-American chef and father of three daughters who has lost his taste for food but not for life; Welch will play a grandmother who has her eye on the chef.
AN ACTING ‘DYNASTY’: The “Dynasty”-esque Aaron Spelling soap opera “Titans” is undergoing a casting change two months before its premiere on NBC. EW.com reports that Perry King will depart after four episodes and be replaced by “Melrose Place” and “General Hospital” heartthrob Jack Wagner.
