Rosamund Pike is in talks to play late war reporter Marie Colvin in a new biopic.

The English actress is well known for her action movie roles in 2012’s Jack Reacher and James Bond outing Die Another Day, as well as 2014 thriller Gone Girl and 2016 period drama A United Kingdom.

She is now set to take on the role of the late journalist, who covered conflicts all over the world, including in Kosovo, Sierra Leone, and Libya, and was forced to wear an eye patch after she lost her left eye to shrapnel in Sri Lanka.

She was killed in Syria in February 2012 after illegally crossing into the country on the back of a motorbike to cover the Syrian civil war. She died alongside French photographer Remi Ochlik, with surviving French journalist Jean-Pierre Perrin refuting the Syrian government’s version of events, which stated terrorists had planted an explosive device in an unofficial media building. Jean-Pierre instead claimed the building had been targeted by the Syrian Army.

Variety reports that the currently untitled new project will be helmed by Matthew Heineman for Thunder Road Pictures. Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Kamala Films’ Marissa McMahon are producing the biopic with Denver & Delilah Films. Erica Lee is the executive producer.

Rosamund was nominated for an Oscar for Gone Girl, based on Gillian Flynn’s smash hit novel, but lost out to Julianne Moore in Still Alice.

The 38-year-old recently commented that she’d like to be nominated again for an Academy Award.
“I definitely would like it again some day,” she told LatinoReview. “I had heard that there was this whole thing that you have to campaign for an Oscar and it’s become very political, and I was pregnant and giving birth with a very small baby, and I didn’t do anything, and I got nominated, and I thought, ‘Well, there you go…! I haven’t campaigned and I haven’t turned this into a political dance.'”
