Rosie O’Donnell lands honorary Tony Award

Actress and TV personality Rosie O’Donnell is to receive a special humanitarian prize at the upcoming Tony Awards. The A League of Their Own star will pick up the Isabelle Stevenson Award at the theatre prizegiving ceremony in New York City on 8 June (14). The trophy is presented to a member of the theatre community in honour of their charity work.
O’Donnell has landed the prize in recognition of her commitment to arts education for school children in New York. Her charity, Rosie’s Theater Kids, offers training in music, dance and drama to underprivileged youngsters.
The actress, who performed on Broadway in a revival of Grease in 1994 and Fiddler on the Roof in 2004, follows in the footsteps of previous recipients including Hugh Jackman and David Hyde Pierce.
