Ruffalo on school run when he received Kids Oscar nod

The film, which sees Ruffalo play a sperm donor dad for a lesbian couple, has proved a big hit with the critics, and the star was recognised for his role by Academy Award chiefs with a Best Supporting Actor nod on Tuesday (25Jan11).

But the father-of-three admits he was late finding out about the honour because he was wrapped up in his own parenting duties.

He tells Entertainment Weekly, “I had no idea they were announcing today. I swear. I was totally taken by surprise. I just dropped the kids off at carpool. I was about five minutes from the school with a carful of kids. With so many kids, I didn’t even realise it was today.

“I’m glad I forgot about it. It’s made it all the more – I don’t know, just sweet and poignant and unexpected, you know?”

Ruffalo faces competition from Christian Bale (The Fighter), John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone), Jeremy Renner (The Town) and Geoffrey Rush (The King’s Speech) for the prize, which will be handed out at the glitzy ceremony next month (Feb11).
