Russian rocker denied parole again

Jailed Russian punk rocker Maria Alyokhina’s latest request for parole has been denied. The Pussy Riot star is nearing the first anniversary of her two-year prison sentence next month (Aug13) and she was hoping to celebrate freedom, but lawmakers have decided she’ll stay behind bars after being found guilty of hooliganism.
Alyokhina and two of her bandmates were arrested following a protest in a Moscow church early last year (12). All three were sentenced to serve time, but rocker Yekaterina Samutsevich was freed in October (12).
The latest parole denial is another blow for Alyokhina’s supporters, who had hoped the new appeal would succeed.
The rocker, whose name has also been reported as Maria Alekhina, appeared at the parole hearing via a video link.
