Ryan Murphy urges Sarah Jessica Parker to press on with Sex & the City film

TV mogul Ryan Murphy has urged Sarah Jessica Parker to recast the role of Samantha Jones and press on with plans for a third Sex & the City movie.

Like many fans, Murphy, who worked with Parker on Glee, would love to see her beloved character Carrie Bradshaw return for one last hurrah, and he insists devotees wouldn’t mind if Kim Cattrall’s character was played by someone else.

Rumors of a third and final movie, based on the cult TV series, have been swirling for years, but Parker recently revealed the film was dead, even though there was a “beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story”.

It has since emerged that Cattrall may have scuppered the comeback plans, because she didn’t want to play vamp Jones again.

She has since confirmed fans’ fears, while lashing out at her former co-stars for the way they dealt with the news.

But Murphy insists there’s no reason for the film to be scrapped just because one of the leading players isn’t on board.

“Why don’t they just recast Samantha?” he asked during an interview at the New Yorker Festival on Saturday. “I don’t get it.

“It seems to me that there are a lot of people on that show who have a great passion for making it. I love Sarah Jessica Parker, I’ve worked with her. I think she’s amazing… she’s a great producer and has a great business acumen.”

And he offered up an alternative, adding, “Just do one where Samantha is dead.”
