Sammy Davis, Jr.’s daughter wants to take dad’s story to Broadway

The daughter of Rat Pack star Sammy Davis, Jr. wants to take her dad’s life story to Broadway. Tracey Davis has just released her memoir, A Personal Journey With My Father, which commemorates the 24th anniversary of the beloved singer’s death, and she’s hoping interest in her new book will lead to a New York stage show.
She says, “When I think about dad, most of his career was on the stage, live. I’ve been thinking about it for years and I just said, ‘Where else does he belong?’ You can do all the singing and dancing and acting and kind of go through history at the same time. I think it’s a perfect natural fit.”
She has a few stars she would like to see as her father on Broadway, including Hairspray actor Elijah Kelley and Outkast rapper Andre Benjamin, who will soon be seen on the big screen as rocker Jimi Hendrix.
Davis adds, “When they redid Hairspray… the opposite lead (Kelley) sang and danced and did a couple of steps and I said, ‘Oh my God, he looks exactly like dad!’ And he’s not tall and his facial features look a lot like dad. I like Andre Benjamin, Andre 3000; there’s a bunch of other people.”
