Sandra Bullock is an ‘overly protective’ parent

Sandra Bullock has described herself as an “overly protective” parent to her two adopted children.
The actress is mother to eight-year-old son Louis and six-year-old daughter Laila, both of whom are African American and hail from Louisiana.
Subsequently, Sandra has taken it upon herself to engage in frank conversations with her children about their skin colour.
“I’m overly protective of my kids,” she told reporters at Australia’s The Daily Telegraph. “I have had to have conversations with them that millions of other parents do because of the colour of their skin. So we have a lot of scary conversations. Sometimes I can be a little softer with them because of the added pressure.”
The Blind Side star, who is currently playing a mother-of-two in a post-apocalyptic horror Netflix film Bird Box, began the adoption process for Louis with ex-husband Jesse James, and decided to continue alone as a single parent when they split after he was caught cheating.
The strong bond she shares with her kids sometimes brings challenges when it comes to balancing her hectic career with parenting.
“I need to be there for every single moment they have,” she said during an appearance on the U.S. Today Show in June (18). “It’s harder for me to leave them than I think it is for them when I leave. I don’t leave that much and I don’t work that much anymore either. So my priorities are my kids, my kids, my kids. My family. My family. That’s it.”
Bird Box streams on Netflix from 21 December, and also stars Sarah Paulson, John Malkovich and Tom Hollander.
