Sara Bareilles to Perform ‘In Memoriam’ Tribute at Oscars

Sara Bareilles will perform the ‘In Memoriam’ tribute at the Academy Awards on Sunday (26Feb17).

Many notable Hollywood stars have passed away in the last 12 months, including mother and daughter Debbie ReynoldsCarrie Fisher, and Alan Rickman, and they will be saluted during a solemn moment at the Academy Awards.

And now producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd have revealed Bareilles will perform as the famous faces of those who are no longer with us are flashed up on a big screen at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

“Sara’s unique artistry will honor those we’ve lost in our community including familiar faces and those behind the scenes who have enriched the art of moviemaking,” a statement from the duo reads.

After the singer’s performance an extended photo gallery of more than 200 late celebrities, moviemakers, writers, and executives will be featured online.

It has not been announced what song Sara will perform.

Earlier this month (Feb17), John Legend teamed up with Broadway star Cynthia Erivo to perform a slowed-down version of The Beach Boys‘ God Only Knows as part of the In Memoriam segment at the Grammys. Legend will also perform at the Oscars. He will sing the Oscar-nominated songs, City of Stars and Audition (The Fools Who Dream), from the movie La La Land, in which he appears.

Meanwhile, it’s a very exciting time for Bareilles as she prepares to make her Broadway debut by taking over the lead role in the hit musical she wrote.

The Brave hitmaker landed a Tony Award nomination last year (16) for composing the music for Waitress, and now she is preparing to serve up a treat for fans by starring as Jenna Hunterson. She will step into the role currently portrayed by Jessie Mueller from 31 March (17) until 11 June (17).
