Sarah Paulson, Tracee Ellis Ross lead A-listers fronting Levi’s campaign

Sarah Paulson, Tracee Ellis Ross and Amber Heard are among the big-name stars stylist Karla Welch has tapped to front her new collection for Levi’s.

Karla, who is regularly ranked among the world’s most powerful stylists, has called on her celebrity clientele and friends to help launch the Levi’s x karla 501 Day collection.

The line will be available on 20 May (18), the 145th anniversary of Levi’s receiving its rivet-pocket patent, resulting in the birth of the original blue jeans.

For the black and white campaign video, Yoko Ono donated her song Yang Yang in support of gun control organisation Everytown for Gun Safety. Other stars to feature in the clip and portrait series include Busy Philipps, SZA, Yara Shahidi, Hailey Baldwin, Amber Valletta, Michelle Monaghan and America Ferrera.

Talking about the collection, Karla explained that she added her own twist to some classic Levi’s pieces.

“It’s all very customisation focused,” she said in a statement. “They’re original designs based on the parameters of utilising a 501 or an existing Levi’s pattern.

“I wanted to imagine what the future of vintage was. If people inhabit Mars 200 years from now, what are the kids going to wear? This idea of creating something that would eventually become an iconic piece of vintage clothing is the basis of the whole collection.”

The collection, which is made up of jeans, jackets and shirts, marks the second time Karla has collaborated with a major brand. Last year, she teamed with Hanes on a line of white T-shirts.
