Sarah Silverman has spoken out about her friend Louis C.K.’s sexual misconduct and expressed she’s feeling conflicting emotions.
Five women came forward to accuse the funnyman of masturbating in front of them as part of a New York Times expose in early November (17), and Louis later admitted the allegations were all true.
Sarah, who has been best friends with him for more than 25 years, finally addressed the news on her talk show I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman on Thursday (16Nov17), and admitted she is still processing her emotions.
“I’ve of course been asked to comment, and in full honesty, I really, really, really don’t want to. I wish I could sit this one out. But then I remembered something I said on this very show, that if it’s mentionable, it’s manageable. So, I’m going to address the elephant masturbating in the room.”
She continued with her emotionally charged speech by saying her pal “wielded his power with women in f**ked up ways” and that it didn’t matter right now that he has been a great friend to her or is a good father.
“It’s a real mind f**k, you know, because I love Louis. But Louis did these things,” she explained. “Both of those statements are true, so I just keep asking myself, ‘Can you love someone who did bad things? Can you still love them?’
“The only people that matter right now are the victims. They are victims, and they’re victims because of something he did. So, I hope it’s okay if I am at once very angry for the women he wronged and the culture that enabled it, and also sad, because he’s my friend.”
After he expressed remorse for his behaviour, Louis announced he would be taking a step back from the limelight. He has since been dropped by his manager, agent, and publicist, and also had projects dumped by TV bosses at HBO, FX, and Netflix, while his movie I Love You, Daddy will no longer be released.
