Scott Walker dies aged 76

The Walker Brothers frontman Scott Walker has died at the age of 76.
The Ohio-born rocker passed away on Friday (22Mar19) after a battle with cancer, representatives of his record label 4AD confirmed to WENN.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Scott Walker,” a statement posted on 4AD’s website read. “Scott was 76 years old and is survived by his daughter, Lee, his granddaughter, Emmi-Lee, and his partner Beverly.”
Scott, real name Noel Scott Engel, was one third of The Walker Brothers, the American pop trio who had hits in the U.K. after moving to Britain in the mid-1960s with songs like Make It Easy on Yourself, The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine, and My Ship Is Comin’ In.
The group split in 1967, and their leader embarked on a solo career, moving away from pop to a more avant-garde sound and appearing in his own BBC TV show, Scott. He became a British citizen in 1970.
Scott reunited with his Walker Brothers bandmates Gary and John Walker in 1975 for three more albums, although these were less commercially successful than they were in their 1960s heyday. He later returned to his solo work and collaborated with new generations of musicians who cited him as an influence including Mark Knopfler, Pulp and Bat for Lashes. He also wrote music for the 2018 film Vox Lux, which starred Natalie Portman as a wayward popstar.
In their statement, 4AD bosses went on to hail the musician as a “genius” who “enriched the life of thousands,” and as “a unique and challenging titan at the forefront of British music.”
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke was among those paying tribute to Walker, calling him “a huge influence on Radiohead and myself, showing me how I could use my voice and words.”
