Sebastian Stan Filmed ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Without a Full Script

Actor Sebastian Stan had no idea how his character would fare in Avengers: Infinity War because he wasn’t given access to the film’s whole script.

The 35-year-old has portrayed Bucky Barnes, also known as The Winter Soldier, in the Marvel blockbusters since 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, and he reprises his role for the new superhero epic, appearing alongside the likes of Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, and Scarlett Johansson.

Marvel Studios officials are known for keeping plot and character details under wraps during production, and the latest Avengers film was no different, with Sebastian having to shoot his scenes without ever reading the screenplay for the whole movie.

During an appearance on Good Morning America on Wednesday (29Nov17), the actor admitted the rumors of his lack of script were “very true”, and shared, “I shot a scene on Monday of this week that I still don’t know in what film it will be. It’s kinda like… riding a psychotic horse through a burning stable!”

However, the shoots are so enjoyable, he doesn’t get too caught up in the specifics.

“It’s with the best people in the world,” Sebastian said of working with the all-star cast. “We all get along, and it’s fun, so I’m up for whatever.”

The Martian actor also confessed filming Infinity War with so many different members of the Marvel movie family was rather “surreal”.

“You look around you and you see the likes of Michelle Pfeiffer, William Hurt, Sam Jackson, and Gwyneth Paltrow, all these different people, and it’s just an accumulation of 10 years of work that basically Marvel has put together for us,” he marveled.

“One day that I really remember, a few months ago, it was everyone there; it was pretty surreal.”
But there’s one castmate in particular who always brings the laughs on set – Anthony Mackie, who plays Captain America’s sidekick Sam Wilson/Falcon.

“It’s pretty hard to concentrate on any set that’s got Anthony Mackie on it!,” Sebastian quipped.

Pfeiffer was recently cast as Janet van Dyne, the wife of Michael Douglas’ Ant-Man character Hank Pym, while Hurt portrayed U.S. Secretary of State Thaddeus Ross in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.

Samuel L. Jackson is known for playing Avengers boss Nick Fury, and Paltrow has featured as Pepper Potts since the first Iron Man movie in 2008.
