Selena Quintanilla inducted into Texas Women’s Hall of Fame

Late Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez has been inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame.
The Bidi Bidi Bom Bom hitmaker was feted by Texas governor Greg Abbott on Friday (21Oct16) and her sister, Suzette, was on hand to accept the award in her honour, according to Billboard.
“I feel very proud in knowing there’s a new generation who has embraced and looked up to her as a role model,” she said at the ceremony. “I know my sister would be ecstatic to be accepting this award that’s so empowering for women.”
“We are happy to announce that today, Selena was inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame at the Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas,” a message on the singer’s Facebook page reads. “Suzette Quintanilla was present to receive this prestigious recognition in her sister’s honor by Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott.
“More than two decades after her death, she is still known by one name, Selena. Young latinas not only saw themselves in Selena, they saw that beauty begins within.”
The honour comes in the same month the late Tejano star’s makeup line with M.A.C. Cosmetics launched and sold out within minutes.
Selena was just 23 when she was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldivar, the president of her fan club, in 1995.
