Kim Cattrall Talks About IVF and SATC 3

Kim Cattrall decided against undergoing in vitro fertilization treatment because of her Sex And The City schedule.

The star contemplated trying to start a family with ex-husband Mark Levinson after they wed in 1998, but came to the realization that parenthood might not be in her future.

“I thought to myself, ‘Wow, I have 19-hour days on this series’,” she said during an interview on U.K. TV show Piers Morgan’s Life Stories. “My Monday morning would start at 4.45am and go to one or two in the morning. How could I possibly continue to do that, especially in my early 40s? Then I realized what a commitment it was just to the (IVF) procedures.

“I thought, ‘I don’t think it is going to happen’. It was the first moment… in my life where I thought, ‘Maybe I’m just not going to do this’.”

The actress has always felt maternal, but she is at peace with not becoming a mother and has chosen to mentor young actresses instead.

“Yes, I think it’s part of being a woman to have that (maternal feeling),” she added. “But obviously fate, timing, luck, destiny, I don’t know…”

“I thought I have a place to be a mom here, not a biological mom but a mom and an auntie and a friend,” she continues. “And that has really given me so much, as much as I give I get two-fold back.”

Kim has since walked away from her role as Samantha Jones in the hit TV show and subsequent films, and she told Piers Morgan she and her castmates were never close friends.

“We’ve never been friends,” she said. “We’ve been colleagues and it’s a very healthy place to be. I don’t see them. The common ground we had was the series and the series is over.”
