Sharon Tate’s Sister Brands Hilary Duff’s Latest Movie ‘Classless’

Sharon Tate’s sister Debra has slammed an upcoming movie starring Hilary Duff as the murdered actress, calling the project “classless” and “tacky”.

The Younger actress took to Instagram on Tuesday night (06Feb18) to confirm reports that she was playing the late star in an independent horror movie entitled The Haunting of Sharon Tate.

The project will follow the pregnant Tate in the days leading up to her murder in 1969, when members of the Manson Family killed her and four others. The story is reportedly inspired by an interview Tate gave a year before her death, when she said her house was haunted and she feared she’d become the victim of a Satanic cult.

Debra has now blasted the movie to People, calling it “classless” and “exploitative”, adding, “It doesn’t matter who it is acting in it – it’s just tasteless.”

She also notes that she wasn’t asked for her permission, even though she owns the rights to her sister’s likeness, saying, “It would have been nice if someone had contacted me.”

Debra also believes the story will involve a premonition Tate is said to have had in which her and her ex-boyfriend Jay Sebring, another Manson Family victim, had their throats slit.

“I know for a fact she did not have a premonition – awake or in a dream – that she and Jay would have their throat cut,” Debra said. “I checked with all of her living friends. None of her friends had any knowledge of this. Tacky, tacky, tacky… It’s a total fabrication.”

The Haunting of Sharon Tate is one of three movies in development about the Manson Family murders, alongside director Mary Harron’s Charlie Says, which will star The Crown’s Matt Smith as Manson, and Quentin Tarantino’s project, which will reportedly feature Leonardo DiCaprio.

Debra has taken aim at them all, saying, “It’s classless how everyone is rushing to release something for the 50th anniversary of this horrific event.”

Tate, the wife of director Roman Polanski, was 26 and eight-and-a-half months pregnant when she was stabbed repeatedly in their home. Sebring, Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski and Steven Parent were also killed.
