Shirley MacLaine Still Struggling With Brother’s Oscars Flub

Shirley MacLaine is still in shock after her brother Warren Beatty‘s Oscars Best Picture drama on Sunday night (26Feb17).

The actress, 82, was in the audience at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood after handing out the Best Foreign Language Film prize with Charlize Theron, when Warren stepped up to present the night’s final award with his Bonnie and Clyde co-star Faye Dunaway.

They were given the wrong envelope and Dunaway announced La La Land had won the big award.

As producers of the film swarmed the stage with director Damien Chazelle and his cast, it became clear a mistake had been made and Moonlight was announced the actual winner.

Beatty stepped up to the microphone in an effort to explain what had happened as host Jimmy Kimmel yelled, “Warren, what did you do?”, and a few days later, his sister MacLaine still hasn’t gotten over the embarrassing turn of events.

“I think we’re all processing the horror of it,” MacLaine tells USA Today. “I’m still dealing with it.”

“I’m concerned with how he (Beatty) must have felt being so close to him. I’m three years older and I’m protective. We know how difficult it was for him, but it was also for me.”

The Terms of Endearment star reveals she wasn’t able to reach Beatty on his phone backstage, so she called his wife Annette Bening at home: “We talked. And that’s all I’m going to say,” she adds, revealing the Oscars mess ruined her night out.

“I just wanted to go home,” she says.
