Sienna Miller: ‘There’s no equality in Hollywood’

Sienna Miller has had first hand experience of Hollywood’s gender inequality.
The 35-year-old actress, who is currently starring in a Cat On A Hot Tin Roof in London’s West End, walked away from a job on Broadway due to the pay divide between her and her male co-star.
And in an interview with Stellar magazine, Sienna said that she hopes her decision not to accept the situation will encourage others to stand up against different standards for men and women.
“There is no equality in Hollywood, whatsoever, and it’s important to stand up and be heard,” she said.
However, Sienna added she’s worried that inequality in the workplace extends much further than just Hollywood.
“It’s not news anymore,” she sighed. “We have a platform and an ability to talk about something and get it written about, but ours is the least worrying of the industries that lack equality. It happens all the time, I could tell you stories.”
Sienna, who is mother to five-year-old daughter Marlowe with former partner Tom Sturridge, believes there are many struggles for women in the workplace – and she has felt it on more than one occasion.
The High Rise actress first came into the spotlight when she dated Jude Law back in 2002, and felt this made it even harder to establish herself as a credible actor.
“If you wear really nice clothes and you’ve got style and you’re young and you have a famous boyfriend, you must be really thick and not talented at all,” she vented. “I’ve found it frustrating, because I really felt like an actor and I just felt like I was constantly battling that.”
