Simon Cowell’s ‘worst nightmare’ would be outliving son Eric

Simon Cowell greatly fears losing his son at a young age.
The X Factor mogul, widely considered to the toughest judge on the TV talent show, has revealed that losing his son at a young age is one of his “worst fears”.
Simon and his partner Lauren Silverman welcomed their son Eric, two, in 2014, and have been every inch the doting parents.
And in a new interview, Simon has revealed that fatherhood has given him a new perspective on life, even though it is tinged with anxiety at times.
“Knowing you will outlive your own child is everyone’s worst nightmare and I am more aware than ever that it can happen to anyone,” he told The Daily Mirror. “Now that I am a father I understand on a much deeper level how devastating it would be to hear the news that your child was unwell.”
The talent show judge spoke on the topic of losing a child as he announced that half of the profits from the X Factor winner’s single this year will go to children’s charities, including Together for Short Lives, which supports kids with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions.
The 57-year-old is a patron for the charity and he shared that he has found their work inspirational on a personal level.
“I’ve met some very young kids who have all sorts of very different conditions. It’s the spirit and bravery of them all though – the kids and the families – that really shines through and inspires me,” he explained.
Simon’s announcement came as the U.K. Government pledged to waive VAT on the X Factor winner’s single.
The single will be released after next weekend’s X Factor final (11-12Dec16), in which Saara Aalto, Matt Terry and 5 After Midnight will compete.
