Sin City star Powers Boothe died on Sunday (14May17) aged 68.
The actor, who was also famous for his roles in westerns such as Tombstone and HBO TV series Deadwood, passed away in his sleep due to natural causes, his representative confirmed.
Boothe’s tragic death was first announced by friend Beau Bridges, who wrote on Twitter: “It’s with great sadness that I mourn the passing of my friend Powers Boothe. A dear friend, great actor, devoted father & husband.”
He is survived by his wife Pam, daughter Parisse and son Preston.
The actor’s spokesperson revealed that a private funeral service will be held in Boothe’s home state of Texas, while a memorial celebration in his honor is “being considered for a future date”.
“Donations can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, which honors the nation’s defenders, veterans, first responders, their families and those in need,” the representative added.
Boothe made his screen debut in 1977 film The Goodbye Girl and starred as the villainous Senator Roark in 2005’s Sin City and 2014 sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
His small screen roles have included Philip Marlowe, Private Eye in the 1980s, and Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones, for which he won an Emmy Award. He has also more recently starred as Connie Britton’s Nashville character’s father Lamar Wyatt on the country music drama series, and Gideon Malick in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
His role as Cy Tolliver on Deadwood saw him nominated for a Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) Award.
