Snoop Lion shows support for Tony Bennett’s anti-violence campaign

Rapper Snoop Lion has thrown his support behind Tony Bennett’s anti-gun campaign by filming an ad for the crooner’s Voices Against Violence organisation. The singer founded the initiative to encourage Americans to use their voice for good and call on members of Congress to pass new safety laws in a bid to save lives, and Snoop Lion, formerly known as Snoop Dogg, has now added his name to the cause in an online promotional video, in which he urges fans to contact their local leaders to make a difference.
In the clip, posted on the group’s Facebook.com page, he says, “Now’s the time for us to raise our voices against gun violence. The politicians who took an oath to serve us have ignored the will of the American people. Say to them, ‘My voice matters,’ and demand to them that they support common sense laws that will save lives.
“Remember, Congress works for us, and if they continue to ignore the voice of the people, then very soon they will be out of a job. We deserve better than this and we won’t rest until Congress takes action against gun violence.”
And Bennett is happy to have the Drop It Like It’s Hot hitmaker on board: “Supporting the safety of our country through common sense gun laws is an issue that crosses all demographics and brings citizens from divergent backgrounds together in this important cause. I am so appreciative that Snoop Lion has added his voice to Voices Against Violence.”
The hip-hop star isn’t the first celebrity to support Bennett’s campaign – others have included Sir Paul McCartney, Alec Baldwin and Josh Groban.
