He passed away on Thursday (31Jan13), exactly one week after he flipped over the handlebars of his snowmobile while attempting to do a back-flip during the freestyle finals in Aspen, Colorado on 24 January (13).
Moore was hospitalised with a concussion, and eventually underwent emergency heart surgery, but he never recovered from the severe brain and heart trauma. He was 25.
A statement from the family to CNN reads, “He will be truly missed and never forgotten. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for all the prayers and support they have received from all the fans, friends and family around the world that Caleb has inspired.”
Meanwhile, bosses at TV sports network ESPN, which hosts the sporting event, are conducting their own investigation to determine whether any safety measures need to be changed to prevent another sickening accident in the future.
A statement from the company reads, “We are deeply saddened by Caleb Moore’s passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his parents, Wade and Michelle, his brother, Colten, and the entire Moore family. He will be remembered for his natural passion for life and his deep love for his family and friends, and he will always be an inspiration to everyone he touched in the action sports community.”
