Sofia Vergara is desperately trying to convince producers behind her hit TV comedy Modern Family to shoot a future episode on location in her native Colombia.
The cast and crew recently enjoyed a mini working vacation in Lake Tahoe, on the border of California and Nevada, to film the opening episode of the new season nine, which premieres on Wednesday night (27Sep17).
It was the stars’ latest on location shoot, after travelling to Australia and Hawaii for previous seasons, and Sofia is now eager to take the show to South America so she can share her favorite parts of Colombia with her TV colleagues.
“It was amazing, every corner of that place is like a photograph,” she gushed about working in Lake Tahoe. “I’m trying to convince them (producers) to go to Colombia! There’s so much… things to do there and to show, but I think it’s gonna take me (some time to sway them). Maybe when we’re done done (wrapping the show for good), they’ll finally (agree) (sic).”
Sofia had a blast on the group trip to the picturesque Lake Tahoe, because being holed up on location allows the co-stars to really hang out and let loose, unlike at their base in Los Angeles, where everyone has family responsibilities.
“We like hanging together,” she explained on Good Morning America. “We don’t get to do that when we’re in L.A., we work usually and then go home, but when we’re trapped in a hotel or in a town, in a city, it makes us all be together and it is a lot of fun (sic).”
The self-confessed party animal also loves to ensure her castmates, including Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Eric Stonestreet, are having a good time in between takes on set while they’re away from home, by providing them with hip flasks filled with booze.
“I bring the flasks, I put them everywhere,” Sofia smiled. “I give them to my manager (to stash) and then we’re all like, drinking tequila, because you can’t stay forever you know, sitting down there (on set), doing nothing. It’s not like we get crazy drunk, but we’re just happy.”
