Songwriter Geoff Mack dies

Country songwriter has passed away at the age of 94.
The star died on Friday (21Jul17) in his native Australia, according to Vintage Vinyl News.
Born Albert Geoffrey McElhinney, the Melbourne native used his talents on the guitar to entertain the troops during World War Two, while he was stationed in Borneo with the Royal Australian Air Force.
He later became a radio announcer, before turning his hand to songwriting and scoring his big break with the 1959 track I’ve Been Everywhere. It was recorded by Australian folk singer Lucky Starr, who climbed the charts with the tune in 1962.
It was subsequently covered by Canadian country artist Hank Snow, leading to a string of other renditions, including one by Johnny Cash on his 1996 album Unchained.
Mack was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee in 1963, and was presented with the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2005 for his services to country music.
