Sophie Ellis-Bextor showed off cooking skills in recording studio

British pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor turned chef during the recording of her new album by cooking dinner for her band every night – and she’s planning to repeat the feat when she heads out on tour. The Murder on the Dancefloor hitmaker released her fifth record, Wanderlust, earlier this month (Jan14) and she hits the road to promote it with a string of shows across the U.K. in April (14).
The album was self-financed and Ellis-Bextor used a team of musicians she considers to be good friends – and the singer was determined to make it a family atmosphere in the studio.
Every evening she would hit the kitchen and rustle up dinner for the rockers, and she wants to recreate a similar vibe for their upcoming tour.
Ellis-Bextor tells U.K. TV show Daybreak, “The thing about making the album is it was (recorded) over 10 days and it was all with friends and I wanted a familial atmosphere… So making supper and sitting together and having a glass of wine and then going back in to do a bit more (work) – it just felt really cosy and fun. I had to do quite a lot of vegetarian dishes as well, but I was doing things like fish stew… I tried to keep it varied.”
Asked by host Aled Jones if she will play chef on her tour, the singer replies, “Yeah! There’s always food involved wherever I go.”
