“Sopranos” actor arrested

The Sopranos actor Robert Iler was arrested Wednesday after being charged with two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of marijuana possession, according to The Associated Press.

The 16-year-old actor, who plays the son of Tony Soprano’s character in the HBO series, was arrested along with three of his friends in New York after the police saw them allegedly robbing two teens in Manhattan’s Upper East side, AP said.

According to police records, Iler was released after posting $2,500 bail. He pleaded not guilty to the charges. Michael Cournede, 16, and Alban Selimaj, 16, pleaded innocent to two counts of second-degree robbery. The fourth suspect, 15, will face charges in Family Court because of his age.

Steven Mintz, Iler’s lawyer, said Iler didn’t threaten or hear anybody ask for money.

“He only learned what had happened much later when he was picked up,” Mintz told AP.

Iler’s mother, Helen, told AP that this was the first time her son had been in real-life trouble, much different to his troublemaker-type character in the Sopranos.

Iller‘s next court date is set for Monday.
