South African rapper shot by police

South African rapper Khuli Chana was shot by police on Monday morning (28Oct13) after officers mistook him for an alleged kidnapper. The hip-hop star got caught up in a police operation to rescue a man taken hostage at a gas station. Both Chana and the kidnapper were thought to be driving similar vehicles and police fired off warning shots, which pierced the side of his car and hit his hand and back.
He was taken to hospital for treatment and is now recovering at home.
Chana’s manager Refiloe Ramogase has now accused police of brutality, saying, “(Chana) is very, very upset, very disappointed in the police and how he was treated. The reality of the matter is this is police brutality.
“The police need to be more circumspect when they decide to use lethal force. They almost took the life of a new father over a case of mistaken identity – before his (infant) daughter ever even said his name.”
The 31 year old welcomed his first child earlier this year (13). Ramogase claims his client will launch legal action against the police force involved.
