“South Park” poopy talk defended

Comedy Central has defended its decision to allow the “S” word to be used on last week’s episode of South Park 162 times. In an interview with Monday’s New York Times, the channel’s executive v.p., Bill Hilary said that he had considered bleeping out the word. But, he noted, the entire point of the episode was to question why certain words are verboten on network television. “If you analyze the word, what does it mean?” Hilary told the newspaper. “It’s like, what’s the big deal; it makes you think, ‘Why is it such a strong word?'” In fact, Hilary said, the channel had received not a word of criticism from viewers following the South Park telecast.
