Spider-Man: Far From Home swings to the top of the U.S. box office

The new Spider-Man sequel has swung into U.S. cinemas with a Marvel-ous $185 million.

Tom Holland’s return as the web-slinging superhero landed the big box office boost from the film’s first six days in theatres.

Spider-Man: Far From Home collected $93 million over the traditional three-day weekend (05-07Jul19) – $24 million less than the start for 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Among the records the new film has picked up at the U.S. box office: the biggest Tuesday ticket sales of all time, the best Wednesday grosses for a Marvel movie, and the second-highest 4th of July holiday haul. It’s also Sony Pictures’ biggest six-day opening weekend ever.

Far From Home also earned $395 million overseas.

Meanwhile, Toy Story 4 slips a spot to two, and Beatles movie tribute Yesterday is at three. Horror movie Annabelle 3 and Aladdin round out the top five.
