Spike Lee reaches his Kickstarter goal

Director Spike Lee is celebrating after raising more than $1.25 million (£806,450) on Kickstarter.com to fund his next movie. The Malcolm X filmmaker set up a page on the crowdsourcing site on 22 July (13) in the hope of generating his target amount by 21 August (13), but he has already surpassed his goal.
Lee has pulled in $1.3 million (£812,500) four days before his deadline, and he took to his Twitter.com microblog to share the good news on Friday (16Aug13).
In a series of posts, Lee writes, “Thank You To All Our Loyal Supporters Who Have Been With Me, Who Continue To Stay With Me. You Folks Did This. You Great People Made HERSTORY (sic). WE DID IT. WE DID IT. $1,251,231 And Still Going HARD.”
Lee had planned to host a fundraiser evening for his as-yet-untitled film project at New York City’s Brooklyn Bowl on Friday, but the event was turned into a party to mark his accomplishment.
