Springsteen rocks the Stone Pony

The Stone Pony couldn’t have had a better way to celebrate the one-year anniversary of its reopening when Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance Sunday night before 2,500 fans at the club in Asbury Park, N.J. According to The Associated Press, Springsteen showed up on stage at about 8:40 p.m. and performed with rocker Graham Parker for one hour. Club owner Dominic Santana had more than music on his mind: he was monitoring tornado reports. “Every time he hits the stage, there is a storm,” Santana said of Springsteen, AP reported. “Basically, he chased the tornado and sent it another way.” Southside Johnny and Asbury Jukes also performed. Their set featured several Springsteen songs, and a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revivals’ “Born on the Bayou.”
